THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for our Summer series of nature walks.

In June, Kelsey Frey led a walk at the Nixon Park Nature Center in York.

In July, Jesse Rothacker led a walk to the White Cliffs of Conoy along the NW River Trail.

In August, Mark Layton led a walk at Refreshing Mountain Camp and Wildlife Center in Stevens.

All three events had great turnouts and participation, and offered us a much-needed return to in-person gatherings, which we have greatly missed due to the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis. Thank you to each person who came out!

Unfortunately, as we head into the Fall, the sun will be setting earlier, and guidance for indoor gatherings is not going the direction we had hoped. I think comedian Dustin Nickerson summed it up best when he said “the Delta variant feels like that unexpected baby when the parents thought they were done having kids.”

For the time being, we don’t have a place to meet indoors. And even when we begin to meet in-person again, there are still many different feelings about what guidance we should follow. Many schools, churches, and workplaces have vastly different guidance requirements at this point. Just conducting our usual meeting routine becomes exhausting because each person has such different expectations, and these expectations are constantly changing. In addition, the challenge of finding speakers has become even more difficult. Typically, our speakers are lined up several months ahead, but with how quickly things can change amidst this health crisis, we have not been able to find speakers.

I want to thank you all for your patience and support of LHS through this challenging time. We are planning to “pause” our club activities as we head into the Fall months and re-evaluate our options as families return to school.

If you know of any speakers or activities for the club to take part in, please let us know!

-Jesse Rothacker
